Regular check-ups and cleanings are the easiest way to keep your child's smile healthy. At Edmonton West Dental in NW Edmonton, we keep visits gentle and unhurried so children learn that the dentist is nothing to fear.

Children's Dentistry
What Happens at a Kids Check-Up
- A gentle exam of teeth, gums and bite
- X-rays only when needed, using digital X-rays with up to 80% less radiation
- A professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar
- Brushing and flossing tips for your child and you
- Advice on sealants and fluoride if they would help
Why Regular Visits Matter
Baby teeth hold space for adult teeth, help with speech and chewing and shape healthy habits. Early visits catch cavities and bite problems while they are small and easy to treat.
Making the Visit Easy
We explain each step in simple words and let your child set the pace. You are welcome to stay with them. See our parent FAQs for more.
Before Your Visit
- Explain in a positive, simple way what will happen.
- Brush and floss before you come.
- Bring your insurance or NIHB details and any health updates.
- Let us know about thumb sucking, pacifier use or any concerns.
After Your Treatment
- Gums may be a little tender; this usually settles quickly.
- Praise your child for a job well done.
- Keep up brushing twice a day and flossing daily.
- Book the next visit in about six months, or as we advise.
Cost, NIHB and Direct Billing
We bill insurance directly and accept NIHB, where families typically pay nothing for covered services. We also accept CDCP and Alberta Adult Health Benefit, and follow the Alberta Dental Association Fee Guide.
