No paperwork hassles

Direct Insurance Billing — We Handle It

We submit directly to your insurance provider so you only pay your portion at the time of treatment. No chasing reimbursements.

Simple process

How direct billing works at Edmonton West Dental

Most patients never think about their insurance claim because we take care of it entirely. Here is the three-step process from check-in to checkout.

01

Bring your insurance card

At check-in, hand our front desk your insurance card. If you have two plans (coordination of benefits), bring both. We handle the rest from there.

02

We verify your coverage

Before any treatment begins, we contact your insurer to confirm your active coverage, annual maximums, and what each procedure is expected to pay. No surprises.

03

You pay only your portion

We submit the claim directly while you are still in the chair. At checkout you pay only your co-pay or any uncovered amount — no forms to mail, no waiting for a cheque.

Government programs

Government and special programs accepted

Edmonton West Dental is enrolled in all major government dental benefit programs in Alberta. We bill directly so eligible patients pay nothing or very little at checkout.

NIHB — Non-Insured Health Benefits

For eligible First Nations and Inuit patients. Edmonton West Dental is a registered NIHB provider and bills directly. Most covered services cost nothing out of pocket to the patient. Children and adults are both eligible.

Alberta Adult Health Benefit

For eligible low-income Albertans. Covers basic dental services including exams, cleanings, and certain restorative procedures. Our front desk can confirm eligibility before your appointment.

Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

For eligible uninsured Canadians who meet income thresholds. We accept the CDCP and submit claims on your behalf. Ask our team whether you or your family members qualify.

Workers' Compensation Board (WCB)

For dental injuries or damage related to a workplace accident. We bill WCB directly for approved claims. Bring your WCB claim number to your appointment.

Insurance questions

Common billing questions

What if my insurance plan doesn't cover the full amount?

We tell you exactly what your plan will cover before treatment begins. Any uncovered portion is your responsibility, but you will know the number in advance. We follow the Alberta Dental Association Fee Guide, so pricing is transparent and predictable — no inflated rates or unexpected add-ons.

Do you require payment upfront?

No. For insured patients, we submit your claim directly and collect only your portion at checkout. For uninsured patients or procedures not covered by your plan, we discuss cost clearly before starting and offer flexible payment options. There is no obligation to pay for anything you have not agreed to.

Can I use two insurance plans at the same time?

Yes. Coordination of benefits lets you use a primary and secondary plan together, which can significantly reduce or eliminate your out-of-pocket costs. Bring both insurance cards to your appointment. Our billing team handles the coordination and submits to both plans automatically.
